A Tennessee man was arrested after allegedly stealing a woman’s car and trying to sell it back to her.
On May 23, a woman called the Memphis Police Department and reported that her 2012 Infiniti G-35 was stolen from The Indigo Hotel.
She informed authorities that she was was contacted by a man who offered her vehicle back to her, in exchange for $3,000.
The victim told officers that the man, later identified as Robert Mitchell, was related to a friend she knew through social media.
After receiving proof that Mitchell did have her car, and with the assistance of the police department, she set up a time and place to meet him.
When Mitchell arrived and saw law enforcement officers at the location, he fled.
According to court documents, Mitchell texted the woman, “Why you got the police on me?”
He was was later arrested and charged with theft of property and extortion.
