Man Arrested After Shootout With Grand Prairie Police

A man was arrested in Grand Prairie after firing multiple rounds at police Monday night.
Alvin Leroy Hemphill,28 is being accused of shooting his older brother in the neck Monday afternoon at the Intown Suites on the 1200 block of Trinity Mills Rd and fleeing the scene.
His brother was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Grand Prairie police say they spotted Hemphill walking along Highway 20 near Great Southwest Pkwy with a gun in his hand and when they asked him to drop his weapon he refused and opened fire.
The officers returned fire and he was arrested and taken into custody.
He is being held at the Grand Prairie Detention Center for aggravated assault on a public servant and two aggravated assault cases in Carrollton.
Hemphill is currently out on bond with Dallas County for evading and resisting arrest.
