A man has been arrested after attaching an Apple Watch to his girlfriend’s car to track her whereabouts.
Lawrence Welch, 29, was arrested and charged on Friday after attaching an electronic tracking device to his girlfriend’s vehicle.
Security at a Family Safety Center in Nashville contacted police after Welch showed up while his girlfriend was getting a protection order. The center is designed to help victims of abuse and violence.
The victim told police that her boyfriend had threatened to kill her multiple times. She explained the she and Welch used the Life360 app to keep tabs on each other’s whereabouts.
She deactivated the app before going to the center and was receiving texts from him demanding to know her whereabouts.
When Welch showed up at the safety center her never went inside. Instead, he approached the victim’s car and was crouched-down near her tire.
When officers inspected the vehicle, they found Welch’s Apple Watch attached to the tire’s spokes.
He was charged with attaching a tracking device to a vehicle and stalking.
Welch is also facing two domestic assault charges from July 2021.
