“Losers” Are What New Dads Are If They Take Paternity Leave, Says Well-Known Venture Capitalist

Palantir cofounder Joe Lonsdale, a well-known venture capitalist, is receiving a lot of criticism for saying that new dads are “losers” if they go on paternity leave.

The remark was made after US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, took a leave to look after his newborn twins.

“Any man in an important position who takes 6 months of leave for a newborn is a loser. In the old days, men had babies and worked harder to provide for their future. That’s the correct masculine response,” Lonsdale tweeted.

It is noted that Buttigieg actually took just two months off for paternity leave.

“Respect that people have different choices. But, being a dad is awesome, and there is more to life than work and money,” Garry Tan, the founder of Initialized Capital, tweeted.

Ultimately, Lonsdale said that he didn’t necessarily have to use the word “loser” and could have chosen a better word. However, he still feels that there are certain roles for men and women.
