In a trailer for Lee Daniel’s “The Deliverance,” that was released on Tuesday, Andra Day plays the role of a young mother who is fighting for her life, her faith, and the souls of her children.

Day’s character, Ebony Jackson, is a struggling mother who has moved into a mysterious home and is fighting her own personal demons. In order to keep her children out of harm’s way, she has to face down a demonic force in her new residence.

“Father, we ask that you cleanse and sanctify us for this deliverance,” Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, playing Reverend Bernice James, states at a moment in the dark and moody trailer, in an effort to try to deliver the house, and Ebony’s family, from demonic possession.

Things then start to go haywire as Ebony is soon locked into a fight for a higher power to save herself and her family. The film is inspired by a true story of possession and also features Glenn Close, Anthony B. Jenkins, and Mo’Nique.

The film will hit theaters on August 16 and will land on Netflix on August 30.
