Last Surviving Tuskegee Airman Only Seeks Birthday Cards For His 100th Birthday

1.8kviews

One of the last Tuskegee Airmen thought to be living in Rhode Island, retired Sgt. Victor W. Butler, will be 100 years old this month.

The only thing that the WWII war veteran wants is birthday cards.

“Oh, I’ll read everyone of them,” he expressed.

Butler served as a mechanic for the well-known Tuskegee Airmen, the first all-Black unit of the WWII Army Forces.

Over 900 men trained at Tuskegee from 1940 to 1946. Close to 450 of them were sent overseas and around 150 died during that time.

It is said that the airmen wanted equality of opportunity. They knew that they could perform just as well as others.

Butler now spends his time relaxing and doing puzzles. He commented on what he has learned throughout his life.

“Just enjoy life as it is. Be thankful. I’m thankful that I have a nice wife and a nice home to live in,” he said.

On May 21, Butler will be 100.

If anyone would like to send a birthday card, it can be sent to:
