Kroger Helps Evicted Mom And Children With Groceries

Several viewers have contacted news outlets after seeing a story about a mom from North Texas was evicted with her three young daughters from their apartment in the City of Dallas.
Jonna McKinley and her family was put out even though she provided all the documents under the CDC moratorium. She and her young three daughters, 5, 7, and 8, had no choice but to turn to a hotel.

Mark Melton and a group of other lawyers volunteer together to help individuals facing eviction during the pandemic. He took on her case at no charge and helped the family move back into their apartment.
After the story aired on the news, Melton and his team reached out to the Kroger grocery chain. On Monday they surprised the family with a gift card in order to help pay for groceries to help get them back on their feet.
“Your story really, really touched us, and so on behalf of Kroger we want to take care of your grocery needs at least for the next couple of months to help you in your journey to help you and your beautiful babies get back on your feet,” said April Martin, Kroger spokeswoman.
The mom reported that she received an abundance of responses from people offering to assist with rent, items for her apartment, and even some job offers.
“I want to say thank you Kroger for everything and all the news outlets because we really appreciate everything. Everything you guys have done have blessed us and now my kids know that people are good people, and everybody is not bad in this world. There are good people that care that’s what means the most to me is that there are people that care,” said McKinley.
