A teacher in the Kemp Independent School District has been arrested and charged after accusations of hurting a student.

Kemp ISD stated that they found out about a concerning occurrence on May 1, involving Melissa McDaniels, a teacher at Kemp Primary School.

The district has not provided further details about what occurred; however, they stated that McDaniels resigned the following day prior to being able to be terminated by administrators.

“Kemp ISD Administration understands that employee matters can raise concerns, especially within our community. We want to assure parents, students, and staff that we are taking all appropriate measures to address this matter,” the district noted in a statement.

Last Wednesday, McDaniels was taken into custody by Kaufman County sheriff’s deputies and is facing a charge of injury to a child, elderly, or disabled individual.

Her bond was placed at $10,000.
