Kansas City Woman Arrested After Tracking Down Her Brothers Suspected Killer And Murdering Him

A Kansas City woman is behind bars and charged with Second-Degree murder after investigators say she tracked down a suspected man who killed her teenage brother last week and murdered him.
Police say she sent a text to her dead brothers’ phone after the incident informing him that she had avenged his death.
Tityana Coppage,21, remains in the Jackson County Jail with a bond of $200,000.
The brother of Coppage, 16-year-old Jason Ugwuh, was shot and killed on Jan. 10 near Paloma Ave and Topping Ave in Kansas City, MO. He was a junior at Hogan Preparatory Academy and a star basketball player.
This is not the first-time tragedy has struck the family. Back in 2016, when their younger brother and cousin – Jayden Ugwuh and Montell Ross – we shot and killed in their home on 57th Street and College Ave, while they were sleeping. Someone had shot into the house, killing the boys, who were only 8 and 9 years old.
The case still remains unsolved.
Investigators reported that Coppage gunned down her brother’s alleged killer on Jan. 13 in a parking lot near Thompson Ave and Benton Boulevard. The victim’s brother had driven him a short distance after the shooting, before stopping and immediately calling for help. Paramedics worked to save the man, but he had already died. He was shot in his leg and chest.
Police used eyewitnesses and surveillance video to track down the Black Ford Escape used in the homicide and spoke with Coppage. She admitted to having phoned the victim before the shooting, but she only did in hopes of the man and her father settling their differences before they killed each other. She confessed to getting into an exchange of gunfire with the victim. She described the situation in a way that appeared to be self-defense, stating that he shot her vehicle first before she returned fired, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Investigators found texts in Coppage’s phone that she sent to a contact named “Auntie,” asking for .45-caliber bullets and saying, “LOL I sued to many on bro.” She also sent a text to her dead brother saying, “sent a [expletive] to my brother I owe em that body,” according to the arrest affidavit.
The forensic and ballistics examination determined the gun recovered from Coppage was the same one used in the shooting, the probable cause affidavit states.
