Michelle Odinet is the Lafayette, Louisiana, judge caught using racial slurs and other derogatory comments. Now, she has quit her job.
Odinet put in her resignation letter to the Louisiana Supreme Court through her lawyer on Friday, December 31, 2021.
“I take full responsibility for the hurtful words used to describe the individual who burglarized the vehicles at my home. I am sorry for the pain that I have caused my community. I ask for your forgiveness as my words didn’t foster the public’s confidence and integrity for the judiciary,” Odinet wrote.
“After much reflection and prayer… I hereby resign as judge of the Lafayette City Court, effective immediately…,” she added.
In video footage, no one can be seen. However, many people use the word “n—-“as they watch footage of an attempted burglary at her home.
The judge’s lawyer acknowledges that Odinet used the words heard in the video.
“Mom’s yelling n—-, n—-,” a male voices, recalling the occurrence while looking at the security recording.
“We have a n—-. It’s a n—-, like a roach,” a female voice responds.
Odinet had been out on leave since the recording circulated online.
