The mother of Michigan teen Ethan Crumbley, Jennifer Crumbley, was convicted Tuesday in relation to her son’s offenses. Ethan Crumbley killed four students and injured seven other during a mass shooting at Oxford High School in 2021.
Jennifer Crumbley was found guilty of four counts of involuntary manslaughter. It is thought that this is the first time a parent has been tried for manslaughter in relation to a mass shooting carried out by their child.
Next month, Crumbley’s husband, James, will be tried for involuntary manslaughter, as well.
Prosecutors had stated that Jennifer and James Crumbley didn’t take any action although they knew that their son was troubled. Additionally, they purchased the firearm that he used in the school shooting and didn’t do anything to prevent the mass shooting from happening.
During the trial, Jennifer Crumbley testified, stating that she never believed that her son was a killer and couldn’t have known what he was going to do.
Ethan Crumbley, who was 15 back then, pleaded guilty to murder, and last year, he was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.
This is so wrong. No other parents have ever been charged for this offense
