Jamaican politician, Olivia Grange, said that a petition for reparations will be sent to Queen Elizabeth II. They have demanded this from the Queen since she is the head of state of the UK.
“We are especially pleased to announce that we have made further steps in our strides toward seeking reparatory justice. This is for the victims and descendants of the transatlantic slave trade,” she stated.
In 2015, many demands of reparations were requested. The UK paid off the debt owed to slave-owning families for the abolishing of slavery in 1883. Therefore, opponents of the petition think that taxpayers have paid their part.
“Britain has already paid its share. They need to take accountability for their own actions. And stop blaming centuries-old people and less savoury histories of the past,” a British historian stated.
