Husband And Wife Sentenced After Operating $31.8 Million Coupon Scheme

The FBI is sharing details about a couple in Virginia, that was sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison. This was after they were operating a three-year, $31.8 million fake coupon scheme.

When authorities searched the home of Lori Ann Talens and husband, Pacifico Talens, Jr., they discovered fake coupons in every part of the residence.

The counterfeit coupons were worth over $1 million. Furthermore, on Lori’s computer, they found creations for 13,000 items.

“She trained herself in the different techniques she needed to manipulate barcodes to make these coupons work,” a special agent stated. It was said that Lori would make the coupons with savings near or more than the product’s retail value.

The Coupon Information Corporation had gotten information that counterfeit coupons were being made and mailed. Additionally, it was found that manufacturers and retailers lost $32 million from the coupons related to the couple.

Lori received a 12-year sentence, while Mr. Talens, Jr., was given 7 years in prison.
