Hurricane Milton struck land Wednesday night as a “dangerous Category 3” storm near Siesta Key, located on Florida’s central west coast, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Siesta Key is a barrier island situated just south of Sarasota. At landfall, Milton boasted sustained winds of 120 mph, but its intensity decreased to Category 1 as it traveled inland across the state.

By early Thursday, over 3.2 million customers in Florida were without power.
