The dairy company HP Hood has announced a voluntary recall of Lactaid, its lactose-free milk, across 27 states due to possible almond contamination, according to both the company and the Food and Drug Administration.

The contaminated milk may contain small amounts of almonds that are not listed on the label, which could pose a risk to individuals with allergies or severe sensitivities if consumed. The FDA warns that these individuals might experience serious or life-threatening allergic reactions.

The recall was made public on Friday and affects 96-ounce containers of whole, 1%, 2%, fat-free, and 2% calcium-enriched Lactaid Milk distributed to retailers and wholesalers between September 5 and September 18.

This potential issue was discovered during routine maintenance checks, which indicated the risk of almond contamination.

The affected states include Alabama, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

So far, no illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported in connection with this product.

The recall specifically concerns products marked with the code 51-4109 P2 and certain “best by” dates indicated by the FDA.
