Ari Clarke, 22, was allegedly killed by James Lee Trussell because the suspect believed Clarke was “looking at his girlfriend,” said the Washtenaw County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Patricia Reiser, who spoke during Trussell’s arraignment on Friday.
“He and the victim were in a verbal argument over something incredibly stupid,” Reiser said. “Apparently, the defendant thought the victim was looking at his girlfriend.”
After stabbing Clarke, Trussell fled the scene but was later apprehended by police. He’s being held in Washtenaw County Jail on charges of open murder.
Trussell was denied bond and Magistrate James Cameron issued a no-contact order with Kyrah Tate and Skylar Campbell, the witnesses and girlfriends of Trussell and Clarke.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Clarke and Trussell were temporary roommates, and the two men got into a verbal argument that escalated into a physical altercation, which led to the stabbing.
