Hoverboard To Blame For Balch Springs Apartment Fire, Dozens Of People Left Without A Home

Dozens of people no longer have a home after detectives say that a hoverboard started a fire at a Balch Springs apartment complex.

Close to 6;30 p.m. on Wednesday, firefighters answered to a call regarding a fire at the Spring Oaks Apartments in the 4300 block of Shepherd Lane.

Other fire departments that were close by assisted the Balch Springs Fire Department in getting all of the residents out and extinguishing the fire.

In all, 12 apartment homes were destroyed and 8 had extensive smoke and water damage. Now, 82 people are left without a residence.

A temporary shelter has been set up at the Balch Springs Senior Center for those which have been displaced. The American Red Cross is also assisting.

It isn’t known if anyone will be cited for the incident.
