Honda Recalls Nearly 2 Million Vehicles Due To Steering Issues

1.2kviews

Honda Motor is recalling 1,693,199 vehicles in the U.S. due to potential steering issues.

The steering gearbox worm wheel, which regulates steering, may have been improperly manufactured in the affected vehicles and could swell during use, reducing the grease film between the worm wheel and worm gear.

Additionally, the preload of the cars’ worm wheel spring, which measures spring compression, was set too high. These two issues may lead to difficulty in steering the affected vehicles.

Possible warning signs of gearbox defects include unusual noises and a “sticky” sensation when trying to turn the steering wheel while driving.

Honda’s U.S. division encourages owners of the affected models to bring their vehicles to an authorized dealer for repairs as soon as they receive notification.

To address the issue, dealers will replace the worm gear spring and adjust or add grease as needed, at no cost to the owner. Owner notification letters are anticipated to be sent out on November 18, 2024.
