Homicide Life On The Street Actor, André Braugher, Dies at 61

Two time Emmy winner, André Braugher, has passed away at age 61 after suffering a brief illness.

Braugher, a Chicago native, graduated from Stanford University and then attended Juilliard School, receiving a Master of Fine Art.

He is known for his major acting roles on Homicide: Life on the Street and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

In 1989 Braugher starred in his first film as Edward Zwick’s, alongside Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman and Matthew Broderick in the Oscar winning movie “Glory”.

He also starred as Kojak’s partner detective Winston and landed a major role in 1993 as detective Frank Pembleton in Homicide Life on the Streets.

Braugher earned two Emmy nominations as well as two Television Critics Association Awards in 1997 and 1998 for Best Actor in a Drama Series.

He also received four Emmy nominations and won two Critics Choice Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for playing Capt. Holt.

Braugher is survived by his wife and three sons.
