A man who is HIV-positive sexually battered a teenage boy, and there may be more victims, authorities say.
40-year-old Jarvis Young, a track coach at Lakeland High School, in Florida, was apprehended after a 16-year-old boy told his mother that Young had touched him inappropriately. He stated that it had occurred when the two had spent a weekend afternoon together. The mother then instructed her son to tell a resource officer at the school about the occurrence.
After learning about the alleged incident, resource officers called the sheriff’s department. That’s when investigators had learned that the teen had been touched and sexually battered. After confessing to authorities that he was HIV-positive, Young left the state.
Detectives say that the sexual battery started over the summer as the victim began going to his coach in order to become more competitive, including assistance with strength training and speed.
On August 28, the two had gone to a Mexican restaurant, documents noted. They then went to the coach’s residence to get equipment, and that’s when the victim said that he was sore. Young then told the victim that he was a trained massage therapist, offering to give him a massage.
However, Young is not a trained massage therapist and reportedly sexually battered the victim while he was supposed to be massaging his hamstrings.
Back in 2011, Young was apprehended for conspiracy to commit sexual battery after he and another adult took two minors to a motel to have sex. However, those charges were later dismissed due to the statue of limitations expiring.
Investigators added that in 2017, he sexually battered another teenage boy, but his relatives stopped cooperating with authorities, so Young couldn’t be criminally charged.
Detectives believe that there may be more victims.
