Aaliyah Gayles, an 18-year-old high school senior who has committed to play basketball at the University of Southern California, was shot several times on Saturday night.

The McDonald’s All-American basketball star had been at a house party in North Las Vegas.

Authorities say that four people, two of whom are minors, suffered gunshot wounds as a fight occurred in the house.

They added that all four people were in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. One woman was in serious condition after taking several bullets to the lower part of her body.

On Sunday morning, Gayle underwent two operations. Sources say that she wasn’t shot in the head or torso.

Gayle is a 5-foot-9-inch point guard from Spring Valley High School in Las Vegas. She is the No.8-ranked recruit in ESPN’s class of 2022. She averaged about 13.8 points,  4.9 rebounds, 3.4 steals, and 3.3 assists this last season. She also led her team to the Class 5A state tournament.

USC’S women’s basketball coach,  Lindsay Gottlieb commented on the incident.

“Aaliyah is one of the strongest, most resilient young people I have ever known…we will continue to support her and her parents in every way that we possibly can.”
