A New York handyman has been sentenced to 55 years in prison for nine counts of child exploitation and one count of possession of child pornography.

On Friday April 8, Orlando Lopez, 66, appeared in federal court for sentencing. He pled guilty to the 10 counts he faced in July 2021. Judge Eric R. Komitee ordered Lopez to pay restitution to his victims.

In February of 2020, Lopez faced charges of crossing the state border with intent to commit sexual acts with children and possession of child pornography in February of 2020.

He used his trade, as a handyman, to make friends with parents inside, and near his apartment complex in Jamaica, Queens. This was a method to access their children.

A press release from the Department of Justice stated “Lopez typically abused his victims in his apartment or their residence, but on occasion abused them in other locations, including a local YMCA facility,”

The sexual abuse began in 2008 and continued for over 10 years. Lopez sexually abused over a dozen children, including infants. He captured these egregious acts on photo and video.

While abusing victims, Lopez provided candy and toys in attempts to distract them.

Law enforcement recovered 13,000 files of child pornography from his home. These files show sexual acts with at least 15 children, including infants. Lopez also shared child pornography with others.
