A shooting incident following the homecoming parade near Tennessee State University on Saturday evening resulted in one fatality and nine injuries.
The shooting occurred around 5 PM near the intersection of Jefferson Street and 27th Avenue North as the crowd was thinning.
Reports indicate that five victims were transported to local hospitals, while five others arrived in private vehicles. Authorities have confirmed that a 24 year old man succumbed to his injuries.
Among the injured, three juveniles aged 12 to 14 suffered non life threatening wounds. The other victims, ranging from 23 to 55 years old, are in various conditions.
Authorities suspect that one of the shooting victims may have been involved in the altercation. Currently, police do not believe the shooting is gang related but believe it stemmed from a confrontation between two groups that escalated into gunfire.
