Governor Greg Abbott Bans The Use Of TikTok On Texas Devices

Texas Governor Gregg Abbott has ordered a ban to stop the use of TikTok on all government issues devices.

Abbott said he believes the Chinese Communist Party could gain access to critical U.S. information and infrastructure.

TikTok, is owned by ByteDance Ltd., which is a Chinese company, their laws mandate that companies share their data with Chinese Communist Party upon request.

In a letter to state leaders Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, Texas Speaker Dade Phelan and other agency leaders Abbott stated, “TikTok harvests vast amounts of data from its users’ devices—including when, where, and how they conduct Internet activity—and offers this trove of potentially sensitive information to the Chinese government.”

Governor Abbott has asked for TikTok to be immediately banned from cell phones, laptops, tablets, desktop computers and other devices capable of internet connectivity.

As of now each state agency has until February 15, 2023 to make official policies regarding the use of Tiktok on personal devices.
