Many young individuals feel a need to own an iPhone. This is in order to have total access to Apple’s message service, iMessage. The messages on theses phone look different.
When iPhone users send a text message to each other, the messages come in blue bubbles.
However, when a Google Android user sends an iPhone user a text message, it is received in a green bubble.
Many teens and college students were interviewed on the matter. Several stated that they didn’t want to get rid of their iPhone because they were scared of getting teased by their peers in social circles.
On Saturday, Google posted on Twitter, stating, “Using peer pressure and bullying as a way to sell products is disingenuous for a company that has humanity and equity as a core parts of its marketing.”
They added, iMessages should not benefit from bullying. Texting should bring us together. The solution exists. Let’s fix this as one industry.”
It has been noted that in 2016 Apple did consider adding the feature for Android users.
A marketing executive stated that putting iMessages on Androids phones would take away an incentive for “iPhone families giving their kids Android phones.”
