Gas Station Manager Fired After Accidentally Selling Gas For 69 Cents

2.5kviews

Last Thursday a gas station in Northern California accidentally sold premium gas for 69 cents. An error that cost the store manager his job.

John Szczecina, the manager at the Shell gas station in Rancho Cordova, mistakenly priced the gas at his store. Instead of putting $6.99 for premium, he misplaced the decimal and set the price to 69 cents.

Hundreds of customers rushed to the pumps to take advantage of the cheap gas, many of them posting online about the deal they just scored.

The mistake took 3 hours to correct and the store lost a total of $16,000 in sales.

Szczecina was fired on Monday. Although he admits it is his fault completely, he fears being sued by the company.

However, according to business attorney Craig Zimmerman, employees are protected from liability when they make mistakes doing normal job duties.
