Garland Father Sentenced to Life in Prison for Driving Teenage Son to Gas Station Where He Shot 4 Teens, Killing 3
The father who drove his armed teenage son to a Garland gas station that ended up shooting and killing 3 other teenagers was found guilty of Capital Murder.
34-year-old Richard Acosta Jr. was arrested after police say he drove his 14-year-old son, Abel Acosta, to a Texaco on December 26, 2021 where the boy shot 4 other teenagers, killing 3 of them. Immediately after the shooting, Abel returned to the vehicle and they both fled the scene.
The 14-year-old, who was well-known to the victims, Xavier Gonzalez, 14, Ivan Noyala, 16, and Rafael Garcia, 17, was never located following the shooting. The fourth victim, 15-year-old David Rodriguez, who just started working at the location as a cook, was shot in the chest but survived.
On Friday, following a 3-day-long trial, a Dallas County jury found the father guilty of Capital Murder.
Richard Acosta Jr. was automatically sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole since prosecutors did not seek the death penalty.
