Fugitive Identified By Tattoos While Hospitalized With COVID-19

A man from America is accused of faking his own death before heading to Scotland.

In 2010, Nicholas Alahverdian was apprehended for domestic violence against a woman in America, and his tattoos were noted.

In a Scottish courtroom on Friday, sitting in a wheelchair, he denied that he was, in fact, the man who had faked his own death in 2020 in Rhode Island. However, police identified him through those same tattoos.

During the hearing, Alahverdian, 34, had his bail revoked. Prosecutors noted that he had bruising on his arms, showing that he attempted to remove his body art.

Authorities say that Alahverdian fled to Scotland to prevent being arrested for money fraud in Ohio and rape in Utah.

He was also said to be a potential “flight risk.” The court heard testimony of his repeated tries to avoid being arrested, including using 16 different names.

Even when he was admitted into the hospital in December 2021 for COVID-19, he used the name Arthur King. His tattoos were documented, and he was identified while on a ventilator in ICU.

On December 13, he was arrested and charged for the Utah rape while in the hospital. Somehow, he discharged himself from the hospital and was supposed to appear again in court on Thursday.

When he didn’t show up, he was arrested again in Glasgow.

In 2019, he told media outlets that he had late-stage non-Hodgkin lymphoma and would only survive a few weeks. In February 2020, numerous outlets had reported that Rossi had died.

An extradition hearing back to the U.S. is scheduled for next month.
