32-year-old Maurice Kelso Smith, of Fort Worth, has been given a life sentence in prison for killing his girlfriend who had been pregnant with twins.
Detectives say that Smith fatally shot 26-year-old Darionne Burley in the back of the head on June 29, 2020.
They say that Smith traveled to Mansfield, placed a gun to a woman’s head, and stole her vehicle.
Authorities discovered Burley’s body in Smith’s car at the location of the robbery.
Police eventually found Smith at his residence attempting to clean the vehicle and get rid of any evidence of the killing. Authorities discovered his clothes with blood all over them and the weapon he used to commit the offense. The weapon had been unlawfully purchased the day prior.
Prosecutors stated that Smith had used a lot of drugs and had assaulted Burley in June before the killing.
Smith’s life sentence doesn’t include a possibility of parole.
