A Fort Worth Lyft driver was shot multiple times by his passenger on Tuesday night.
According to reports, officers responded to a shooting call in the 8100 block of Cassie Lane around 8 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, Marx Jean, 29, suffering from at least three gunshot wounds. He was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
During the investigation, authorities determined that Jean was off duty when he was shot by his passenger.
Reports indicate that Jean had met the suspect a week prior and had given him his number for future Lyft rides. He mentioned that when he arrived, the suspect had a woman with him who got into the back seat while the suspect occupied the front seat. An argument broke out, during which the suspect pulled out a gun and shot Jean three times before fleeing the scene.
A Lyft spokesperson stated that the incident did not occur on their platform and released the following statement: “The behavior being alleged has no place in our society, and our thoughts are with the victim. While this incident did not happen on the Lyft platform, we stand ready to assist law enforcement with any investigation.”
Lyft also reiterated that off-platform rides are strictly prohibited.
