Fort Worth Housing Solutions will be opening its waitlist for the Federal Housing Choice Voucher Program between 8 a.m. Monday, Jan 25th and 11:59 p.m. Friday, Jan 29th. The public housing authority for Ft. Worth is the 13th largest in our nation.
The last time the wait list opened up was back in November of 2017.
Over this 5-day period, qualified residents may apply online at www.applyfwhs.org. Disabled residents and others who may need assistance are encouraged to contact the housing agency at 817-333-3654. An agent will be available for assistance from 9am to 4pm Jan 25-28.
Any individuals who previously applied for the Housing Voucher Program must reapply.
FWHS is planning to add a maximum of 5,000 qualified individuals to the waitlist though Jan 29. This will be based on a lottery system, not the time and date the application was submitted. In addition, a pre-application will not guarantee placed on the list.
Due to reports, about 40 individuals leave the FWHS Housing Choice Voucher Program each month. This makes room for several new participants pulled from the wait list. Applicants in the past must wait several years just to get an opportunity to obtain a rental assistance voucher.
The “choice” portion of this programs mean that voucher holders may use their assistance to help pay rent at any property that would accept their voucher.
