Fort Jackson Army Sgt. Jonathan Pentland, 42, was found guilty of third-degree assault and battery on Monday.
Pentland was already suspended.
A viral video surfaced that lead to protests and outrage across social media since April.
Pentland was since arrested and charged.
Pentland was suspended from his drill sergeant the day after he was arrested.
You can see Pentland in the video yelling at a Black man in the neighborhood.
He was demanding him to leave and threatened physical harm.
“You’re in the wrong neighborhood,” Pentland yelled.
Judge Diedra Hightower sentenced him to 30 days in prison or pay $1,087 in fines, according to court documents.
Pentland was staying 30 mins from Columbia when he was arrested.
That’s about a 15 minute drive to Fort Jackson.
The video caused protestors outside of Pentland’s home.
Demonstrators stood demanding for justice and the end of harassment for Black Americans.
