Miami police arrested a former University of Miami football player Thursday for the murder of his then teammate Bryan Pata.

Miami Dade police arrested Reshaun Jones,35 for the 2006 murder of his former teammate.
Bryan Pata,22 was shot in the back of the head while walking to his car on November 7,2006.
He was leaving his apartment off Southwest 77th Avenue and 93rd Street.

Jones has always been a suspect but no charges had formally been filed.
It was believed the two men had a volatile relationship between 2004-2006.
They had two separate altercations where Pata beat Jones up during a fight.

It was also said that Jones dated Pata’s girlfriend.
Throughout the investigation officers learned that Jones had threatened to shoot Pata but he never reported it.

“The Pata family has waited a long time to see the individual they had believed involved in Brian’s death arrested and charged,” said State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle. “While the time needed to build sufficient evidence to ethically charge in a homicide can sometimes feel endless, families should know that the passion and determination of police and prosecutors to resolve unsolved cases does not diminish.”
