A Texas man, sought for aggravated sexual assault of a child, was captured after an officer-involved shooting in Houston on Tuesday morning.
The incident took place on the 500 block of Bay Area Boulevard around 9:40 a.m.
Robert Johnson, 32, was wanted by authorities in Collin County for the sexual assault and was found inside a McDonald’s. He had been avoiding capture since he removed his ankle monitor in September.
When law enforcement approached the restaurant, Johnson stood up but failed to comply with repeated commands. Officers attempted to use a Taser, but it was unsuccessful.
In response, Johnson raised an object towards both the officers inside the restaurant and those stationed outside. Seeing this as a threat, the officers fired at him through the glass windows.
Despite being shot, Johnson continued to resist arrest. Eventually, a K-9 unit was deployed to assist in his capture. He was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
The Texas Rangers are examining the officer-involved shooting, and Johnson could face additional charges related to the incident.
Earlier, on July 9, 2024, Johnson, who was working as an Uber driver, picked up a young girl in Frisco following her therapy session. During the ride back to Plano, he pulled over and sexually assaulted her. Before dropping her off, he allegedly threatened her with consequences if she revealed what had happened.
The next day, the girl told her therapist, who then reported the incident to the police. Johnson was arrested on July 12 and charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child. He posted a $200,000 bond on July 21 and was monitored by an ankle bracelet.
