Former Richardson Mayor and Husband Convicted for Bribery and Tax Evasion

Laura Maczka was a mayor, making $2,600 a year. She left her job so that there would be no issues with her position as a city official.

Mark Jordan was a rich businessman with a taste for luxury and expensive items and a womanizer, said government officials.

Jordan desired to develop land in Maczka’s city near Interstate 75. However, many of her  neighbors didn’t want new apartments constructed nearby.

Authorities say Maczka, now Laura Jordan, got attention, sex, $18,000 cash, $40,000 in checks, a Mercedes convertible, and $24,000 in a home improvement. She received all these things for her votes in Marks Jordan’s projects.

However, defense lawyers stated that the gifts weren’t bribes, but gifts to a mate. They said that Laura publicly encouraged the Palisades development prior to her meeting Mark.

Laura married Mark in 2017. Officials say it was a cover up.

On Friday, both were found guilty of bribery and tax evasion.
