Former Officer Pleads Guilty To Federal Charges In Breonna Taylor Case

2.7kviews

On Tuesday, an ex-Louisville Metro Police Department officer became the first individual to be convicted in relation to Breonna Taylor’s death.

Kelly Goodlett pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy.

She confessed that she and Joshua Jaynes attempted to cover up their deceit. Prosecutors add that Kyle Meany was aware that they had given false statements but chose to grant their probable cause affidavit, anyhow.

The details of Goodlett’s plea deal aren’t known. However, in court Tuesday, prosecutors stated that the offense is punishable up to five years in prison and three years probation or a $250,000 fine.

On November 22, Goodlett will appear in court again to be sentenced.

Earlier this month, federal charges against four ex-LMPD officers, linked to the Breonna Taylor matter, were announced.

The three other officers were Jaynes, Meany, and Brett Hankison.

Hankison is facing charges of unconstitutional excessive force because of the shots he fired during the raid that evening. Many of those bullets went into a next door apartment.

Meany and Jaynes are alleged to have falsified an affidavit in order to get a search warrant. Their trial date is set for October 11.
