Former NBA Player Eric Montross Dies After Battling Cancer At The Age Of 52

52-year-old Eric Montross, the ninth overall pick in the 1994 NBA Draft, has died after battling cancer.

Montross was a standout at the University of North Carolina Tar Heels, and won a national championship in 1993 prior to playing eight seasons for the Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, New Jersey Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons, and Toronto Raptors.

Reports have indicated that Montross died on Sunday at his residence in Chapel Hill, surrounded by family. He had been diagnosed with cancer in March of this year.

Throughout his NBA career, Montross scored 2,071 points and completed 2,159 rebounds. Later, he was a commentator for Tar Heels basketball games following his retirement in 2003.
