George Zimmerman was acquitted in the 2012 shooting death of Trayvon Martin. Now, the lawyer that defended him is suspected of witness tampering in a child sexual assault case.
Hal Uhrig was apprehended Monday. He is charged with solicitation to commit perjury and witness tampering in Osceola County, Florida.
He was representing a man who was accused of raping a girl who was 9 years-old at the time. He allegedly set up a meeting with his client, the victim, and the victim’s father. This was supposedly done to prevent the man from going to jail.
It is said that Uhrig told the father to write a letter saying the rape never occurred. He also allegedly told him to avoid being served with a supoena, and lie during the disposition.
In July, the family gave this information to the state’s attorney’s office. This was after the victim’s father met with Uhrig and recorded the discussion.
Uhrig is out on bail and has claimed he is innocent.
