An ex-doctor, in Florida, was given probation/house arrest after fatally shooting his 67-year-old father in 2018 and choking his now ex-girlfriend.

Reports show that Rafael Azulay, 47, had asked his parents to stop by his home and provide him with a charger for his ankle monitor. Azulay was on house arrest because of a battery charge for strangling his ex-girlfriend in 2018.

Azulay then shot his father and himself in the abdomen and head. He was transported and treated at a hospital.

In a previous incident, Azulay faced charges of aggravated assault for allegedly threatening his mother, Dina. She testified in court that her husband was shot unintentionally, and her son had never threatened her. She added that drug abuse was the reason for her son’s crimes.

Azulay had first been charged with second-degree murder. He has been in custody or in a hospital for the last four years.

After suffering a traumatic brain injury from the self-inflicted gunshot wound, a plea deal was reached. Azulay was found incompetent to stand trial. His lawyers noted that although he understands the consequences concerning his plea, he wouldn’t understand if the case went to trial.

Azulay’s charge was then lessened to manslaughter with a firearm. He will serve two years of community control with a GPS monitor. Then, he will be on probation for manslaughter for ten years. He also got one year of community control and credit for time served for battery. Azulay will live with his mother.

He must also surrender his medical license.

“Angela,” Azulay’s ex-girlfriend, had previously stated that she would be worried for her safety if he wasn’t in custody.

She is now planning to alter her name and relocate out of the state.
