Christopher Coit, a 42 year-old communities in schools coordinator at Lake Ridge Elementary School, in Cedar Hill, is a hero.

A student was choking on Cheetos in the cafeteria. Coit quickly responded and performed the Hemlich Manuever. He saved the child’s life.

“..I was just glad I was there at the time to assist as needed…, ” Coit noted.

Coit is also a full-time Dallas County Sheriff’s Deputy. He was raised in Dallas and attended Kimball High School where he was a well-known football player.

After receiving a football scholarship to UNT, he met Pro Football Hall of Famer, “Mean” Joe Greene. Greene told him the chances of making it to the NFL were slim.

Therefore, after a short NFL tryout, he decided to utilize his criminal justice degree instead of attempting to play football overseas.

10 years ago, Coit helped another child live by calling emergency crews.

He intends to become a school principal once he retires from the sheriff’s office.
