On Wednesday, Jerry Harris was sentenced by a federal judge. The ex-star of the Netflix documentary series, “Cheer,” was given 12 years in prison for getting teen boys to send him explicit photos and videos of themselves. He also solicited sex from minors during cheerleader competitions.

Harris will also have 8 years of court- supervised release after he serves his sentence.

Earlier this year, Harris pleaded guilty to receiving child pornography and traveling with the intention to engage in illegal sexual conduct.

The 22-year-old, from Naperville, Illinois, apologized to his victims prior to the sentencing.

“I am deeply sorry for all the trauma my abuse has caused you. I pray deep down that your suffering comes to an end. I’m not an evil person. I’m still learning who I am and what my purpose is,” stated Harris.

Harris confessed to authorities that he asked for child pornography on Snapchat from at least 10 to 15 minors.

He has been held in custody at a federal detention location.

In January 2020, “Cheer” was released. Harris became widely-known for his positive attitude and his supportive “mat talk.” He also interviewed famous individuals on the red carpet at the Academy Awards for “The Ellen Degeneres Show.”

The docuseries depicts the popular cheerleading squad from Navarro College, in Corsicana, Texas.
