Female Rapper Sentenced To 4 1/2 Years In Prison For Her Role In $27 Million Tax Fraud Operation
A rapper from Detroit was given 4.5 years in prison for her part in stealing $27 million in a fraud operation that extended six states, federal prosecutors stated on Friday.
42-year-old Sameerah Marrell also goes by Sameerah Anderson, Sameerah Pickett, Creme, and Loren Boyd. In addition to her prison sentence, she must also pay $7.9 million in restitution and finish three years of supervised release when she is freed.
Marrell, a member of the rap group, “Dueces Wild,” and others, defrauded the IRS and several state treasury departments. These include Minnesota, Georgia, Maryland, Arizona, Connecticut, and Colorado. She did so by filing 122 fake tax returns, prosecutors say.
They filed to receive over $13.6 million from the IRS and $14.7 million from the six states by claiming false refunds they shouldn’t have gotten. Some of the frauds that were committed were done after Marrell was apprehended for making fake claims to the IRS.
When Marrell was charged, she left the state. In December 2022, she was found.
