Gangsta Boo, whose real name is Lola Mitchell, has passed away. It is unclear how the pioneer of female rap and ex-Three 6 Mafia member died.
Gangsta Boo’s career began in the ’90s when she teamed up with DJ Paul, Juicy J, and other founding members of the rap group. These included Lord Infamous, Crunchy Black, Koopsta Knicca, and others. Gangsta Boo was one of the only female rappers among the other members.
She not only had her own albums out at the time, but she also appeared on 5 of Three 6 Mafia’s studio albums. Included in these was their debut record in “Mystic Stylez,” and other projects like ‘Chapter 1,’ ‘When The Smoke Clears,’ and the ‘Choices’ album.
In the early 2000s, Gangsta Boo left Three 6 Mafia. Afterwards, she produced another solo album and multiple mixed tapes. She also worked with notables like Gucci Mane, Lil Jon, OutKast, E-40, T.I., The Game, and others.
In the 2020s, Gangsta Boo collaborated with Killer Mike and El-P on their hip hop project “Run The Jewels.” Additionally, she teamed up with several music outlets to produce music, like UPROXX and more.
She was well-known in the Memphis community and music scene.
Gangsta Boo was 43.
