Andrew Wayne Atkerson, a 33-year-old father from Florida, is accused of throwing and slamming his son into walls and closets. This was all because his son had made in-app purchases through an iPad.
On Monday, Atkerson was charged with felony child abuse and arrested.
A 9-year-old boy disclosed to authorities that his dad was angry after he and his younger brother had made the purchases on the device, on February 3.
As a result of the physical abuse, the boy suffered wounds under both eyes, on his hip, and in the shoulder area.
When the child’s mother picked him up from school, she noticed the injuries. She and the Department of Children and Families took photographs.
“I didn’t touch [the younger brother] besides whipping his ass,” Atkerson texted their mother. “I may have over punished them a little bit,” he told authorities.
The father was already on probation for felony battery. He had attacked the children’s mother by pulling her by her hair and snatching a phone out of her hand, in 2017. They eventually divorced.
Atkerson remains in custody on a $12,500 bond.
