Father Of High School Graduate Pushes Superintendent So He Wouldn’t Shake His Daughter’s Hand
During a graduation ceremony on Friday, a father of a high school graduate forcibly removed the district superintendent away from his daughter as she walked across the stage to get a congratulatory handshake. The incident occurred at Baraboo High School in Wisconsin.
The man, who has not been identified to protect his daughter’s identity, rushed onto the stage right after the girl had been given her diploma and started to walk down the line to shake hands with school officials.
Prior to the graduate being able to get to district superintendent Rainey Briggs, the father, wearing a white polo shirt and baseball cap, pulled Briggs by his right arm and pushed him away.
“That’s my daughter,” the man was overheard saying in a recording of the ceremony.
“You better get up off me man. Get away from me, bro,” Briggs said to the father as staff and three police officers tried to intervene. Someone was then heard saying, “I don’t want her touching him.”
Following the occurrence, authorities escorted the father out of the school, and a disorderly conduct charge was referred to the Sauk County District Attorney’s Office.
“We would like to emphasize that the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community members is a top priority,” a statement from the district noted.
It is reported that previously, many residents, including a former district teacher, have voiced several concerns against Briggs, other administrators, and the school board.
