Father Of Garland Teen Shooting Suspect “Didn’t Know Son Had A Gun”

On December 26, three teenagers were fatally shot, and one was wounded in Garland. The father of the suspected assailant, who surrendered the next day, is still in jail.

Richard Acosta,33, is facing a capital murder charge because police say that he transported his 14-year-old son, Abel Acosta, to and from the gas station where the victims were killed.

Now, the father’s attorney says that the dad is innocent and wasn’t aware that his son had a gun.

Lawyer Heath Harris stated that the father entered the store by himself to get his medicine. When he got back to his vehicle, the boy went in the store, firing 20 rounds.

When the dad heard the gunshots, he slumped down out of view in his Dodge Ram. Abel was “hysterical” when he got back into the truck, and the father took them home. Abel then got into a car and left, the lawyer said.

Richard Acosta is in the Dallas county jail on a $3 million bond.

Still, Abel Acosta has not been located. Garland police are continuing to search for him and believe him to be armed and dangerous.
