Father Files $1 Million Lawsuit Against School After His 7 Year Old Biracial Daughters Hair Is Cut Off By A Teacher
A Michigan father filed a $1 million lawsuit against the school district after his daughters hair was cut without permission.
Jimmy Hoffmeyer filed a lawsuit in Grand Rapids against Mount Pleasant Public Schools.
He claims that his biracial 7 year older daughters constitutional rights were violated.
He also alleges his daughter was racially discriminated against as well as emotional distress and assault and battery.
The incident happened back in March when his daughter arrived home from Ganiard Elementary with a large portion of her hair missing.
Hoffmeyer asked his daughter what happened and she said a student on the school bus cut it.
He spoke with the school and took his daughter to a beauty shop to have her hair styled.
Two days after the incident Jurnee returned home with another portion of her hair cut off.
This time she told her father that a teacher cut it.
The teacher and student that cut Jurnee’a hair were both white.
Hoffmeyer stated in his lawsuit, “The district “failed to properly train, monitor, direct, discipline, and supervise their employees, and knew or should have known that the employees would engage in the complained of behavior given the improper training, customs, procedures, and policies, and the lack of discipline that existed for employees.”
Since the incident the teacher has been reprimanded as well as the two other staff members that knew about the incident and failed to report it.
