A family in Bremen, Kentucky, said that they wouldn’t be alive if they didn’t have a storm shelter.
Last Friday night, Jordan Evans and Gage, his son, were with each other when tornadoes struck western Kentucky.
The father and son weren’t in town when the twist hit, but Gage’s mother and the rest of his family were in the same location as the storm. The home isn’t equipped with a basement and there was no path that led underground.
However, the family did have a 10-foot-deep and 12-foot-wide storm shelter, next door.
Gage’s stepfather, Justin Pointer, took the 8 people in his family and two dogs into the small space until the storm was over. Although the structure was shaking, uncomfortable, tight, and had to be held down, Pointer said it provided the protection that was needed.
He said that he and his father had built the shelter 10 years ago and couldn’t recall how much it cost to make. But he says, “you can never put a price on your family’s safety.”
