As a funeral was taking place, family members, of a loved one in Fresno, California, discovered that the body in the casket was not their relative.
Cher Lee is the deceased, and her grandchildren have stated that they have suffered emotional trauma. On February 2, 2022, they filed a lawsuit against the funeral home, Fresno Funeral Chapel. They are seeking at least $1 million in damages.
On September 23, 2021, Lee died, and a deceased person from someone else’s family was put in the casket.
Court documents state that the funeral home “had dressed Cher Lee in the Khang family members’ ceremonial funeral clothes. It was in the open casket in place of the departed Khang family member.”
As a result, Lee’s relatives have concerns that their grandmother won’t be placed in her final resting site.
On Friday, the funeral home claimed responsibility for the occurrence.
“It was our mistake for putting the wrong body out. We should have double-checked. I pray it doesn’t happen again,” stated Steven Smith, the chapel’s funeral director.
