Ex-Sheriff’s Deputy Sentenced To 12 Years In Prison For Planting Drugs On Innocent Motorists
28-year-old Zachary Wester, an ex-Jackson County, Florida, sheriff’s deputy, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison. He had been convicted of placing drugs on several motorists.
In May, Wester was found guilty on 19 counts. On Tuesday, he received his 12-and-half year punishment. He had felony charges of racketeering, official misconduct, fabricating evidence, and false imprisonment. He was also charged with misdemeanors like possession of a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia, and perjury.
After a trial that lasted a week, most of Wester’s 67 counts had been dismissed.
He was said to have planted methamphetamine and paraphernalia in cars. This involved many innocent motorists that had been pulled over in 2017 and 2018.
Prosecutor Tom Williams requested that Wester be given 15 years in prison.
“People voluntarily grant their government awesome powers they deem necessary for public safety and protection. With that great power comes great responsibility. The defendant made choices to violate that trust and committed crimes against those people he was sworn to protect.”
